Written off copy machines what to do with them?
In this blog, I want to address a common problem.
One’s office has one copier too many because it has been replaced by a more modern and better one. If you have a comment on this article please post it at the bottom, I comment on all comments! So what on earth should you do with that old copier?
They are usually quite large so leaving them is a bad idea. 
The best thing is to trade in and let the seller of your new copier take that old one with him
Sometimes the supplier of the new copier manages to get the old one taken away right away.
If they want to do that, you really should get right on that.
If you continue reading this blog you’ll understand why.
There is no old-for-new with copiers, your supplier is under no obligation to help you!
But just as well as you still get €2000 (and sometimes even more) for a 15 year rusty car when buying a new one, when buying (or leasing) a copier you can try to trade in your old one.
This is then just discount in disguise.
When trading it in, though, always ask if the vendor (or your copy mechanic) will clear the hard drive!
Buying up an old copier
That would be very nice, if you could still get a few pennies for your old copier and if they came and got that ugly thing too.
If they would also take the confidential data off for you with a certificate.

The used copy machine business is just dead, and even reasonably young and fresh machines are just unsellable.
Give your old copier as a gift!
Yes, actually that’s a good idea!
If you can please the local tennis club with it?
But do they want to pay for maintenance and toners, which come naturally when you print with it?
And a printer from Coolblue is often much more convenient and especially handheld.
And do they also come to pick up the heavyweight with a van and pain in the back?
And will the paint job in the office stay in one piece?
Oh yeah…your old copy machine has saved all the print jobs, faxes, phone numbers, scans and more.
The tennis club gets that as a gift too, will you?
Get your copier disposed of by the professional.
The above does show that the actual value of an old copier is ZERO euro at best.
But then you must be lucky enough to have been able to snare the local soccer club or your supplier with the monstrosity.
If that didn’t work out you can turn to the professional service provider and we’re talking about a computer recycling company.

Down the stairs
If your discarded copier is at the top of the stairs then it is wise to get the professional in anyway.
Then choose one that has access to an electric stair runner.
Without an electric stair runner, you have a high chance of damage to the paintwork and then another professional will come, namely the painter.
Many moving companies do have an electric stair runner but that doesn’t solve anything because then your old copier still won’t be recycled.
Oh yes…for using a stair runner they will charge extra money, but that seems logical to me.
Data destruction at depreciated copiers
Many copiers contain a hard disk.
This hard disk stores print jobs, network data, phone numbers, scans and more confidential data.
This is something to think about when you are handing the old copier over.
So when you give your old copier to the sports association, they get all your confidential data with it immediately and for free!
The supplier of the copier (and the mechanic of the copier) can destroy the data for you.
So when you trade it in you have to negotiate this.
Furthermore, most computer recyclers – especially those that have WEEELABEX – can also destroy the data for you.
You have to ask for this explicitly.
