Q: Do you remove hard drives from laptops for data destruction?

Yes we do. No need to fuss yourself, we take the hard drives out for you. We also do that when we destroy the hard drive on site. The laptops without a hard drive that remain we then also take away and that is then free of charge.

Q: Do you have to destroy the entire laptop to make sure no data can leak out?

In most cases it is sufficient to remove only the hard disk from the laptop and destroy ( or wipe ) it to ensure that no confidential data can get out. However, there are exceptions such as Chromebooks, which are often used in education, that must be shredded because you cannot remove the hard drive. On Macbooks and Macbooks air, we can remove the hard drive, so we don’t have to shred them. When we arrive on location to shred, our drivers know exactly which laptops you can remove the hard drive from.

Q: Does IT Recycling also take on Macbooks?

Q: Can you destroy M2 drives?

Yes then it is certainly possible. We can take M2 drives out of the laptops and then destroy them. Because M2 drives are very small you do need a special shredder for that. Q: Can you just throw your laptop in the shredder?

No you really can’t. A laptop has a lithium battery and that causes fire in a shredder, moreover, toxic gases come out of a lithium battery when you break it. Before a laptop goes into the shredder, take the battery out first. Also the screen should not go into the shredder because the screen contains harmful substances. So we also remove the screen. All this is a labor-intensive job, though. It is much more convenient to take out only the hard disk or M2 disk and destroy it, the rest of the laptop is then recycled.

Q: Can destruction be done on site?

Yes that can be done very well. But usually we only destroy the hard disk from the laptop. We take it out for you and it goes into the shredder.

Q: Which is better on site or take away?

On-site destruction is always better. But is unfortunately also more expensive. When we destroy your laptops on location you see with your own eyes exactly what happens and you see (the hard drive from) the laptops go into the shredder. With on-site destruction of hard drives and laptops you really have total security. We can take your laptops and then they will be destroyed at our warehouse in Veghel.

Q: Do we receive a certificate afterwards?

Yes indeed. With every destruction you get a data destruction certificate. This states when, how and by whom the laptops have been destroyed. You will receive this certificate both when laptops are destroyed on location and when they are destroyed on a take-away basis.

Q: Do we get the serial numbers of the hardware that was destroyed?

Yes you will. Before we destroy a hard disk we first scan the serial number. If it is a hard drive in a laptop then you will also get the make, model and serial number of the laptop and the serial number of the hard drive.
