10 tips on delivering your office space after corporate relocation

When your office moves to a new location, it creates a lot of work and tension for everyone involved. Before everything is in order at the new location, everything is tidy and you can get back to work, a few mountains often have to be moved.

And as if setting up the new office environment correctly doesn’t involve enough action….then an old office space must also be handed over neat and broom clean.
That’s exactly what this blog is about. Comments on this blog are more than welcome. I will respond to every comment. I have experienced office clearances many times and with this blog I want to give you some useful tips that can save you a lot of money, effort and stress.

10 tips : Delivering the old office space after a business move.

  1. Clear office immediately and don’t put it off.
    We sometimes come across offices that still need to be vacated years after the move.
    I would really urge everyone to pick up clearing your old office immediately after the corporate move.
    Then that matter is settled and you can just move on to the new location.
    This also feels much better for those involved emotionally.
    Even better if before you move, it is even better if you get the clearing of your old office underway.
  2. Schedule the viewing well in advance.
    And have a quote prepared.
    The quote should really state exactly what they are going to do.
    And it should say what the final result should be.
    You should really read the quote carefully, because if they have to do something later that wasn’t in the quote, it’s extra work, and that can cost a lot of money.
    Also pay attention to fine print, liability and exclusions of that liability.
    If you don’t get a neat quote within a few days then I think it’s better not to go into them with that party.
  3. Don’t try to sell old office furniture or fill up the thrift store with it.
    There is just really no business in used office furniture.
    Used office furniture should be disposed of and recycled.
    And don’t make the mistake of spending a lot of time with traders and recycling centers who promise to help you and then, when the chips are down, take some of the nicer furniture and leave you with the rest.
    My tip: Don’t fuss with that junk, just have it removed by a decent company that will really clear everything out for you.
  4. Safes and safes: You CANNOT sell those, they have ASBEST in them and that is nasty shit. And safes and vaults cost FOUR MONEY to have cleaned up. Try to make a deal with the next user or the owner of the property.

  1. Air conditioners: This is the same story.
    There are CFCs in here and they have to be taken out and that costs a lot of money.
    Once that A/C is out, it will probably need plastering and painting and those are all costs.
    Try to make a deal for the next user.
    If they take over the old air conditioner for free, you are easily rid of it.

  2. Be careful who you partner with.
    And above all, make clear agreements.
    We have experienced several times that we had to do an eviction after another party had also tried and left a huge havoc.
    Perhaps it is useful to ask for references.
    And how are they certified?
    Furthermore, I don’t think it would be helpful to pay up front.
  3. Rather not a thrift store.
    I definitely have nothing against thrift stores.
    For example, here in Uden there is a very good one.
    Furthermore, I am of course in favor of product reuse and recycling.
    However, we regularly hear from our customers about unpleasant experiences when it comes to office clearances from thrift stores.
    I really feel that an office is no place for a thrift store.
  4. Notify your old neighbors in good time that you are going to vacate.
    Because vacating can cause a nuisance.
    Together with your neighbors, you may also want to start thinking about where to place trucks and containers.
  5. Many cooks spoil the brew.
    Make sure one person within your organization is the point of contact for evacuation, and not more like one.
