Sustainable Education: The Importance of Computer Recycling

In the modern world, education is inextricably linked to technology.
From elementary schools to universities, computers and other electronic devices are used everywhere to support the learning process.
This means that schools have now built up impressive IT infrastructure, with networks that are among the most extensive in the country.

But what happens to all those computers once they reach their useful life? This is where IT Recycling comes in. With hundreds of schools as customers, we understand the importance of responsible disposal of electronics.

IT Recycling buys the depreciated hardware from schools and education.

One notable difference from corporate environments is that computers in education tend to be used for longer periods of time and often have lower specifications. Schools often invest in affordable options because heavy applications and large data sets are less common. As a result, used devices, even with some signs of use, still have value. IT Recycling therefore offers fair prices for used equipment, including student computers and laptops.

Destruction of data and hard drives in education

When disposing of these devices, it is critical to consider the data stored on them.
While student computers often do not contain sensitive information, teacher devices and network equipment require careful data destruction.
Fortunately, this process can be seamlessly integrated with the recycling of used equipment.
The cost of data destruction can even be offset against the proceeds from the returned devices.

Free collection of computer waste for computer recycling

When schools have computer waste we pick it up and it’s absolutely free.
This can always be done in conjunction with buying up equipment and destroying with data on hard drives or other media.

However, schools and education use not only computers, but also things like digiboards and large smart boards. While these cannot be resold due to the lack of a second-hand market and the minimal recyclable material, we at IT Recycling can dispose of and recycle these devices responsibly. Unfortunately, in the specific case of IWBs and smart boards, we do have to charge for them. Collection of all other computer waste is completely free for schools, though.

Buy up laptops very gladly!
But no Chromebooks.

More and more schools are getting rid of desktops and replacing them with laptops.
So although these are often somewhat more modest models and specifications, they are still very eager to make a good offer and buy them from the schools.
Very different lies, unfortunately, with the Chromebooks.

As for Chromebooks, although they are great for educational purposes, we do not buy them at IT Recycling. There is simply no used market for Chromebooks, which means they are not that popular in the used device market.

Solutions to any problem with depreciated hardware

By partnering with IT Recycling, schools can not only dispose of their old equipment responsibly, but also contribute to a more sustainable future by reducing electronic waste and recycling valuable resources.
