Recycling returns and other electronics recycling

uXhA7wZbazs

Actually, this blog is about something much broader than computer recycling.
We at IT recycling regularly have orders for recycling and/or destruction of all kinds of batches of electronics equipment.

In this blog, I am going to highlight some aspects we have to deal with when it comes to the recycling and/or destruction of these types of batches.

We begin with the types of jobs we encounter here at IT recycling with a real-world example.

Recycling of returns and recycling of RMA stock.

We have a number of customers for whom we do recycling of returns and recycling of RMA stock.
That means recycling electronics and electronic devices that have been returned by customers.
For example, people buy a device in a webshop, they don’t like it and they return it.
We recycle those devices.
So these are devices that are (apparently) not being further repaired.
IT-recycling does this for, among others, a very large online shop.

Electronics recycling of repair stock and unrepairable devices.

We also do recycling of repair stocks for a number of customers.
That is, stocks of unrepairable appliances.

We do this, for example, for the well-known Polar Sport Watches.
In the case of Polar, we also have to deal with data destruction.
This is because the watches have already been with customers and therefore may contain personal data.
IT recycling ensures proper destruction with the shredder of the unrepairable watches.

Electronics recycling and recycling of overstock and obsolete and obsolete inventory

And another example of electronics recycling is the recycling of obsolete inventory and recycling of overstock.
These are often NEW devices or new parts that have been lying around for a long time.
Far too long and therefore have no value.
Usually this is neatly packaged and then has to be unpacked for recycling or data destruction.

The other day for a computer hardware reseller, we recycled 96 pallets of new SUN parts.
You can see that in the video below.

Recycling of transport damaged devices and recycling of insured devices.

So often new or almost new appliances with major or minor damages.
The customer then wants the case to be recycled and sometimes they also want a guarantee that it will be destroyed from a competitive point of view.

For example, we destroy computer hardware that has been involved in calamities on behalf of insurers and insurance brokers.

How is it packaged?

How things are packaged can be quite important.
The other day we had a very large batch of printer parts – and so this was a typical case of overstock and obsolete stock – we saw very large boxes with very small pieces of metal in them.
So we unpacked all the boxes – cardboard to paper recycling and metal just disposed of as scrap metal.
Of course, this was a costly operation for the customer.

Is it recyclable ?

All electronics and electronics parts are basically good recyclables.
However, it is important that there are no boxes around them, for example….
The metals often still yield a small amount so it can be put into motion for the customer (almost) for free.

Furthermore, sometimes we can still sell appliances as working appliances.
This is actually the best way of recycling.
In such cases, we can sometimes even give a small compensation.

In many cases, it is not acceptable to our customers for appliances to be sold as working appliances.
In such cases, we disable the devices and provide recycling.
After this, we issue a certificate confirming that the devices can no longer appear on the market.

Data destruction combined with electronics recycling.

If a tablet or a phone has been sold and then returned, it is likely that there is still confidential user data on the device.
In such cases, we are asked to destroy the data – with a certificate.
Insured devices also almost always involve confidential data that must be properly destroyed.

The cost or perhaps…. Does it yield any benefits?

Whether it costs money – can be cost-neutral or, on the contrary, provides something more is different for each situation.

When recycling electronics overstock and return goods, of course the most important factor is time and labor.
If the items are in neat little boxes and what comes out of the boxes has to be recycled then it already has to be fairly valuable material to arrive at cost neutral.

If it involves many of the same devices that can still be sold as appliances, whether after data destruction or not, it is sometimes possible that there may be compensation in return.
