Fossil-free : An Environmentally Conscious Decision
IT Recycling is a company that collects old computer hardware daily using a fleet of four vehicles, including three heavy trucks and a van. These trucks were responsible for more than 90% of the company’s total CO2 emissions. Despite the desire to switch to electric trucks, there were practical obstacles, such as the high cost and limited range of electric vehicles.
This led to the decision to switch to HVO100 vegetable diesel, a renewable fuel that offers environmentally friendly benefits. With this, IT Recycling aims to reduce its environmental impact and take a significant step toward sustainability.
What is HVO100 Vegetable Diesel
HVO100, short for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil with a blending ratio of 100%, is an advanced biofuel produced from renewable resources such as vegetable oils and fats.
HVO100’s production process involves hydrotreatment, in which vegetable oils and fats are subjected to hydrogen treatment to alter their molecular structure.
This results in a fuel similar to traditional diesel fuel, but with significantly improved environmental performance.
The benefits of HVO100 vegetable diesel are manifold, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower air pollutant emissions and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
Environmental Benefits of HVO100 Vegetable Diesel
The use of HVO100 vegetable diesel offers significant environmental benefits, including:
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions: HVO100 leads to significantly lower CO2 emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change.
- Lower emissions of air pollutants: Reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter improve air quality.
- Reduced dependence on fossil fuels: HVO100 reduces dependence on non-renewable fuels.
These environmental benefits contribute to a cleaner and healthier living environment.
Impressive CO2 reduction
In 2021, IT Recycling’s total CO2 emissions were 77 tons, of which 74 tons came from their diesel trucks and only 3 tons from other business activities. By 2022, truck emissions are reduced to just 7 tons, representing a remarkable 90% reduction. This impressive drop in emissions is directly attributable to the switch to HVO100 vegetable diesel.
This has resulted in a significantly more favorable carbon footprint and the fulfillment of the CO2 targets set by the Dutch police.
Social Responsibility and Green Business Practices.
IT Recycling understands the impact of their operations on the environment and society. The choice of HVO100 and future plans for electric trucks attest to their commitment to social responsibility and green business practices. Not only do they want to make a positive impact on the environment, but also inspire others to take similar steps.
Experiences with HVO100 Vegetable Diesel
After nearly two years of using HVO100 in their trucks, IT Recycling has found that diesel consumption has remained stable. Despite limited availability of HVO100 in certain locations, fueling at a specific station near their shed worked well. They experienced no significant increase in maintenance costs on their trucks. This experience confirms the practical and financial benefits of HVO100.
Future Plans for Electric Trucks
IT Recycling has clear future plans to replace their fleet of trucks with electric trucks as soon as it is financially feasible. They believe electric vehicles are the next step in their journey to sustainability. They have already integrated electric passenger cars and vans into their fleet, and they are determined to make the switch to electric trucks as soon as conditions allow.
Our Vision for a Greener Future
IT Recycling has a clear vision for the future in which sustainability and environmental awareness are central to their operations and to society. They remain committed to green business practices, reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental awareness. They invite others to join them on this journey to a cleaner and greener future.
Sustainability in Action
IT Recycling is an inspiring example of a company that is actively taking steps to reduce its impact on the environment. Their transition to HVO100 vegetable diesel and their future plans for electric trucks demonstrate that sustainability and green business practices are feasible and rewarding. Together, we can have a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable world for future generations. It is a journey that IT Recycling continues with pride and determination.
