Outsourcing battery recycling brings several benefits that are both positive for the environment and increase fire safety. By partnering with professional recyclers, companies benefit from modern processing techniques that help manage harmful substances safely and reuse valuable materials efficiently. This leads to reduced environmental risk, but also ensures a safer environment for both the environment and employees. Discover the key benefits of professional battery recycling and how it can improve business operations.
Batteries contain chemicals and materials that can be harmful and dangerous to people and the environment if not handled properly. Furthermore, lithium batteries pose a fire hazard if handled carelessly. The transport of lithium batteries for recycling may only take place in accordance with ADR regulations, which govern the transport of hazardous materials. IT Recycling is an ADR-certified company and is authorized to transport lithium batteries for recycling.
For lithium battery storage, companies must comply with the new very strict PGS37 fire safety standard. These are rules for compartmentalization, storage and fire monitoring. For this purpose, IT Recycling has two special fire safes for safe storage of lithium batteries for recycling. We are one of the very few in the country to comply with the PGS37 standard.
Outsourcing to specialized companies minimizes these risks, as these companies follow strict safety measures and procedures to prevent human exposure to hazardous materials and avoid environmental contamination. This makes the recycling process safer for the employees directly involved.
We are seeing more and more companies committed to a greener world, and outsourcing battery recycling makes a significant contribution to the environment. Specialized recycling companies use methods to recover and reuse valuable materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. This reduces the need for mining new raw materials, which is an intensive and often polluting process. Furthermore, recycling old batteries reduces strategic dependence. In Europe, we are still dependent on imports of lithium batteries from geopolitically sensitive regions such as China and African countries.
In addition, proper recycling significantly reduces electronic waste, which can otherwise release harmful chemicals into the environment. By choosing IT Recycling’s professional battery recycling, organizations and individuals contribute to a circular economy, where raw materials are reused to the maximum extent possible, reducing pressure on natural resources.
Lithium recyclingThe pickup of used batteries through IT Recycling is an efficient process. On the prearranged date, our staff will visit your location to pick up the used batteries. To ensure maximum safety, we transport them in specially sealed containers. This is done via ADR transport—for hazardous materials.
Our trucks are ADR-compliant and equipped with special fire extinguishers for lithium fires. And our drivers have completed ADR training. Every year, an independent auditor verifies that IT Recycling continues to comply with ADR standards, after which an audit report is prepared. We’ll send you a copy upon request.
For maximum safety, we transport them in specially sealed containers, with fire-resistant vermiculite granules between the batteries. If you’d like to dispose of other computer waste or data storage devices in addition to old batteries, we’ll take them with us at no cost. You don’t have to haul them yourself.
Once the items arrive at our warehouse in Veghel, we carefully register all items and remove the used batteries. These are then professionally recycled. Within five business days of pickup, you’ll receive a record of the serial numbers, a recycling certificate, and an environmental certificate.
Collection and recycling of all kinds of batteries is not free. It costs from €2.50 per kilo and €100 start-up costs. Those €2,50 are the normal lithium polymer batteries you have in cell phones, bicycles, laptops and normal small electronics. If you have other lithium batteries for recycling please take a picture, usually we can determine from your picture what kind of lithium battery you have and give you a good price for recycling. For more advice on our service you can always reach us at 0413-249756, or arrange it directly online. Battery recycling can always be combined with data destruction.
The WEEELABEX standard, still relatively unknown in the Netherlands, plays an important role in the recycling and processing of hardware and computers. Did you know that improperly disposing of your electronics through a non-certified provider can even result in fines?
This certification is a mandatory European standard since July 1, 2015 and applies to anyone handling end-of-life computers, including data destruction and trade in used computers that are put back on the market. The certification establishes uniform procedures for collecting, storing, transporting, processing, recycling and reusing electronic waste and is a legal requirement.
We also comply with PGS37 for the fire-safe storage of lithium batteries, we are a certified company for the transport of hazardous materials, and we have an ISO 14001 environmental management system.
