TFT monitors can only be recycled about half (by weight). This is due to the monitor’s back light which contains quite a few harmful substances such as mercury.
Currently, many defective TFT monitors are exported from Europe to Third World countries. The screens are used there to build low-cost television sets. The disassembly and recycling of the rest of the monitor is then often done irresponsibly. Therefore, the export of defective TFT monitors is prohibited. Unfortunately, far from everyone abides by these regulations. There is a lot of money to be made.
To prevent the export of computer waste, companies engaged in the collection and processing of computer waste are required to certify to the WEEELABEX standard. Of course, IT Recycling has this certification in-house. The WEEELABEX website shows which companies have this certification. A WEEELABEX certification offers you the guarantee that recycling is done to the highest standard and within legal frameworks.
