You can delete the data on hard drives digitally and physically. In the latter variant, you really destroy the hard drive. You can also erase hard drives magnetically, but that is not sufficient. Unlike digital deletion and magnetic destruction, physical deletion is faster, always more thorough and therefore safer. Thorough destruction of disks is therefore necessary.

Do you have solid state drives or solid state disks that need wiping? Erasing an SSD is not guaranteed to be safe. Physical destruction is always better. You can burn these drives, but this is inconvenient and results in environmental damage.

Q: How can an old hard drive break down?

Traditional hard drives contain moving parts that wear out with use. Damage also causes hard drives to become partially or completely unreadable.

Q: Why do I need to have my data carriers destroyed?

It is better not to throw away a broken hard drive, especially if it contains confidential information. Even if the hard drive is smashed, data remains on it. It is a breeze for hackers and specialized companies to read data anyway. If you want to make sure your data is really gone, opt for professional destruction. This can be done on location so you can see that your disks are truly destroyed unreadable.

Q: Is this a safe process?

Not safe, but sometimes it is convenient to remove hard drives via software. For example, if you want to give your computer a new life. Just throwing data into the trash is insufficient, as is formatting hard drives. Free software makes it easy to recover data. There are special programs that remove data better, but still sometimes data remains.

Q: Are there any risks if I don't have it properly destroyed?

For businesses, erasure and self-destruction is absolutely inappropriate. A hard disk with a dent can simply be restored at a data recovery company and hackers know how to deal with it as well. For professional data destruction you really need a good shredder that shreds the hard disk. Anything else is not secure enough!

Going for really safe? Then you want to see your hard drives destroyed, just in the office. Meanwhile, there are a few companies around the country that have mobile shredders built into a van. The biggest and best is from IT Recycling, and it’s built into a 26-ton Scania truck. So you can have a mobile hard disk shredder come and under your watchful eye we shred the disks into small pieces. Right now, about 20mm is the minimum size. Only IT Recycling’s mobile hard drive shredder shreds up to 9mm on site. SSD drives we shred even down to 0mm.

Q: Why are the requirements for destruction of SSDs more stringent?

Mechanical hard drives and SSDs differ. The data density of SSDs is much higher and therefore ordinary destruction with a shredder at 20-30mm as most companies do is not safe enough. Better shred them with IT Recycling’s mobile hard drive shredder to pieces 9mm or smaller. Currently, only IT Recycling can do this on site. Upon request, we can even reduce SSDs to 0mm on site.

Q: How do I destroy hard drives in computers?

Companies often do not have time to remove hard drives from their computers. That is why we take them out professionally after which we destroy them thoroughly. This saves you time and effort.

Q: How do I destroy other data carriers with sensitive information?

Do you have sensitive data on data carriers other than hard drives? Then physical destruction remains the safest option. This can of course be done with a mobile shredder. Why destroy hard drives?

Destroying your company’s hard drives means absolute security. Hard drives are usually full of company and customer confidential data; you don’t want to take any chances with that. Simply emptying and formatting your hard drive may seem like a safe option, but all the data is easily retrievable. Especially by hackers. Certified data processing

When hard disks are still present in the computers, we remove them free of charge. After destroying the hard drives with the fixed or mobile data shredder, you will receive a set of documents from us including a signed list of serial numbers and a certificate of destruction.

After ordering online you will receive a confirmation from us with a collection date and also what we are going to do and at what price, that’s very clear. After the actual destruction you will receive a data destruction certificate and environmental certificate, an account of weighing, a list of serial numbers and your invoice. This set of documents is guaranteed to be auditor-proof. We always do the actual destruction of hard drives ourselves with our data shredder; the mobile or the fixed data shredder. So we never outsource the destruction.

The mobile hard disk shredder is an in-house development of IT Recycling. It makes us the only company in Europe that can destroy hard disks to 9-millimeter pieces on site and in just a few seconds. The advantage of destroying hard disks on location is that you can watch during the process. So you never have to hand over hard disks and other data carriers again.
